EASTCONN is seeking two, part-time Human Services Navigators to serve as Success Coaches in our Adult Education and Community Programs team. The Success Coaches will work at both the Community Learning Center in Willimantic and the Northeast Learning Center in Danielson. We will be hiring one day-time coach and one evening coach. Some reasonable flexibility with work hours would be desirable.
The position will:
- Conduct orientation sessions with new cohorts of ELL and high school completion students entering the program ensuring that they are familiar with program expectations and resources available.
- Ensure that students begin their classwork ready to use relevant educational technology. The Coach will assess students ability to use relevant educational technology and provide basic training if students need some assistance.
- Support students ongoing success by developing and maintaining a supportive mentoring relationship. The Coach will help students to identify personal academic and career goals, direct students to helpful resources and assist students in overcoming obstacles to their success.
Ideal candidates for this position will have the following characteristics:
- Able to teach in a positive and supportive manner to a multiracial, multicultural, and multilevel group of participants.
- Bilingual in Spanish and English
- Comfortable conducting community-building activities within a classroom setting
- Comfortable facilitating group interaction
- Able to organize student-related activities
- Have Adult Education experience and / or understand needs of adult students
- Able to introduce complex/difficult subjects, but also simplify them and break them down into manageable units when working with students
- Thinks of student as a whole person
- Works well as part of a team but also self-directed
- Comfortable with change (and working for a learning organization)
- Strong organizational skills (time management)
Required qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Psychology, Sociology, Human Development, Counseling, Workforce Development, or other relevant degree field plus three years related work experience (will consider reasonable alternative combination of education and experience)
- Ability to thrive within diverse teams and serve people with diverse socioeconomic, racial, and ethnic backgrounds
- Excellent customer service and communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Competency with Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Project Management of group events.
- Capacity to complete data-entry tasks utilizing computer and web-based systems, maintain accuracy and efficiency in fast-paced environment.
- Ability to infrequently travel within Eastern Connecticut and occasionally statewide with reliable transportation
- Experience with Public Speaking and presentation skills for group workshops (preferably in-person and web-based).
- Managing Personally Identifiable Information and maintaining ethics and confidentiality surrounding sensitive information.
- Possess high energy and motivation to assist customers in challenging situations with designing individualized pathways to meet their employment goals.
